The one-of-a-kind, African shaker is handmade from a dried calabash gourd with cowrie shells woven onto a net covering the gourd.

The Shekere (aka Axatse) is a West African percussion instrument used in West African traditions, music and sacred ceremonies. In performances it is shaken or hit against the hand.
