Nefertiti (1300bc), whose name means "a beautiful woman has come," was the queen of Egypt and wife to Pharaoh Akhenaten during the 14th century B.C. 
 
Together, Nefertiti and her husband birthed an artistic revolution of realism; during their reign, it was royal law that Egyptians be depicted in honest form, as they actually appeared, naturalistic and with a sense of movement. Note, this was a radical move breaking off from the artistic tradition of their predecessors, where portrayals of Egyptians appeared stenciled and rigid. Perhaps most noteworthy, her husband established the cult of Aten, the Sun God. Egypt, formerly a civilization of polytheistic (many Gods) worship, became a monotheistic one, worshipping only one deity, the Sun.
